Tyler Afana is a Los Angeles based cinematographer and director originally from Sacramento, CA.
Getting his filmmaking start in high school, Tyler went from learning the basics of how to use a camera to directing an entire class in the production of a monthly school-wide broadcast. While pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Film & Television Production at Loyola Marymount University, he continued working in broadcasting with the Athletics department, rising from working as a camera operator to once again directing entire broadcasts.
In his classes, Tyler learned not only the function of each department in a production, but more importantly how to communicate and collaborate with them in order to make the best film possible. As an upperclassman, he began working as a cinematographer and director. Tyler’s most recent cinematography work is a short film about the loss of innocence of two teen Hispanic Angelenos (dir. Malik Gay-Bañuelos).
Outside of filmmaking, Tyler also enjoys photography, reading, and video games, at one point being captain of the varsity Rainbow Six Siege esports team at LMU.
